A splendid 5-star hotel in a equally splendid location. Looking out of the hotel from each facade, you see famous landmarks in each direction. On one side, the Louvre Museum, on another, the Opera House Garnier, from the third, the Comedie Francaise, and from the fourth, the Palais Royal. You will also be walking distance to the Tuileries Gardens, the Ile de la Cité, Notre-Dame, Châtelet, les Halles, Beaubourg, and, across the river, Saint-Germain and the Orsay Museum! You can feel the historical and cultural soul of Paris pulse all around you.

When Napoleon III inaugurated the hotel in 1855, French journalists described it as "a palace of the people, rising adjacent to the palace of kings." In 1897, Camille Pissarro moved into a room with a view that inspired many of his landscapes. Between the Louvre and the Palais Royal, the hotel has a decor of marble, bronze, and gilt.

The guest rooms are quintessentially Parisian, filled with souvenirs of the Belle Epoque with elegant fabrics and upholstery, excellent carpeting, double-glazed windows, comfortable beds, traditional wood furniture, and tiled bathrooms with a choice of tub or shower. Rooms feature air conditioning, satellite television, direct dial phone, mini bar, hairdryer and radio.

Each room has its own characteristics, such as wooden beams or four-poster beds. They all differ and are beautifully decorated with antiques. Some of the bathrooms feature whirlpool tubs. The elegant guest rooms in the front overlook the canal; those in back overlook the garden and picturesque rooftops.

The breakfast room resembles a Louis IV lounge with chandeliers and high ceilings and grand curtains on the windows. In the rear, there's a charming little courtyard with umbrella tables and a garden off to one side -- the setting for Sunday concerts in June!

Spacious rooms have classic furnishings and some modern luxuries, including heated towel racks, hair dryers, and trouser presses as well as modem connection, television, telephone with answering machine, mini bar and in room safe.

An elegant French restaurant L'Alban Chambon caters to the sophisticated diner, and the Belle Epoque Cafe Métropole to the sophisticated cafe lover. Train ride will be 3 hours and departs regularly throughout the day.

Day 26 - Arrival London; Private Car Transfer Rail Station to Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park; 3-Nights Standard Room Including Continental Breakfast and Tax

Set behind a stately looking late-19th-century brick facade whose style is defined by art historians as "Franco-Flemish," this is one of London's most appealing and historic hotels. It was built in 1889 as a private men's club, then converted into a hotel in 1902. A few decades later, the 13-year-old who later matured into Queen Elizabeth II attended ballroom-dancing lessons here!

The recent restoration brought lavish amounts of brass, marble, mahogany, and stained glass back to its original turn-of-the-20th-century gloss. The lobby maintains a perpetually tasteful allegiance to pomp and circumstance, complete with a multimillion-pound collection of paintings on long-term loan from the National Maritime Museum.

Situated in the perfect location, Hyde Park, Harrods, and Harvey Nichols are at your doorstep. In addition, the hotel features an extensive list of highlights such as the Michelin-starred restaurant "Foliage," a sophisticated bar and an acclaimed spa.

Bedrooms are opulent, decorated with pale colors, countless yards of silk and satin, some with meticulously restored antiques that have been in the hotel since its earliest years, and state-of-the-art tiled bathrooms with large tubs. Additional amenities include air conditioning, direct dial phone, in-room safe, cable television and mini bars. The service here is legendary and includes butlers on every floor.
